Tree Pose or "Vrksasana"

30th May 2017

This is a one-legged balancing pose. The pose builds confidence and can help to centre the mind. It's not easy to think about your stress when you're balancing on one leg!

Physical Benefits of Tree Pose in Yoga

  • Strengthens thighs, calves, ankles, and spine
  • Stretches the groins and inner thighs, chest and shoulders
  • Improves sense of balance
  • Relieves sciatica and reduces flat feet

Mental & Spiritual Benefits of Tree Pose in Yoga

  • Calms and relaxes your mind and central nervous system
  • Develops balance and focus, physically and mentally
  • Increases your mind / body awareness.

How to do it: Stand on one leg and bring your foot up to your ankle, shin, or thigh depending on your flexibility. You can put a hand on the wall for balance or even stand with your back against a wall. If you feel very centred, lift your arms into the air to create "branches" for your tree.
